Oligo-/polyploid species have been identified in various phylogenetic groups, e.g., in proteobacteria (Pecoraro et al., 2011), cyanobacteria (Griese et al., 2011), gram-positive bacteria (Böttinger et al., 2018), methanogenic archaea (Hildenbrand et al., 2011), and halophilic archaea (Breuert et al., 2006).
